Railay: Illuminated Clear Kayak Night Tour Bioluminescence

Paddle through calm waters in a clear kayak as the sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky with vibrant colors. Witness the stunning transition from golden sunset to starlit night, then prepare to be amazed as bioluminescent plankton light up the sea around you a natural spectacle that feels like paddling through a sea of stars.

Start your journey just before sunset with our friendly guided group tour. Meet us 10 minutes early at our shop on Railay Walking Street for a quick check-in and life jacket fitting. At 6:00 PM, we’ll walk as a group to the beachfront, where you’ll be introduced to your guides and gear before setting off into the twilight.

As the sun dips below the horizon, we begin our paddle beneath the towering limestone cliffs that make Railay world-famous. Explore hidden caves and ancient caverns, glide beneath hanging stalactites, and watch flying foxes soar overhead. Nature writes a new story every night—so expect the unexpected.

As twilight fades and the first stars appear, your 100% clear kayak becomes a window into another world. Watch the shallow waters beneath you begin to glow, lit by your kayak and the mesmerizing magic of bioluminescent plankton. We'll turn off our lights, swirl the water, and marvel at the glittering trails that shimmer around us—an unforgettable experience.

Along the way, silverfish and other curious sea creatures may greet you, adding wonder to this already magical night.

We'll end the 2-hour excursion by paddling back, light all aglow, to Railay Beach with memories to last a lifetime.

Things to Know Before Your Trip

• Wear comfortable clothes that can get wet
• Arrive at the meeting point 10 minutes before the tour starts
• Bioluminescence visibility may vary depending on weather conditions
• Activity is rain or shine
• Leave valuables safely in your room
• Smartphones and other electronics must be waterproof
• Attach prescription glasses and sunglasses with a chord
• Wear a swimsuit, and if you want, layer with a T-shirt or sarong
• Stay well hydrated and have nutritious food before the activity
• Do not be late! If you arrive after the tour start time, or transportation meeting time, you will be considered a no-show
• Do not damage our gear, step on light bars, crash into others or rocks, or sink kayaks with carelessness. Charges may apply
• Conditions in South Thailand are tropical. It is very common to have an intense afternoon rain storm that clears in time for the tour. Our best tours are often after the storm, so we may adjust start times slightly to accommodate for weather

Getting to the Meeting Point

If you stay at Railay Beach, Our shop is located on the Railay Walking Street, half-way between Railay West Beach and Railay East Beach. It's a 2 to 5 minute walk from either beach.
